Marriage License
Information
Basic Requirements.
You must be 18 years old or older and single. If either
party is under the age of 18, Parental consent is
required and must be present at the time.
Obtaining a license in the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania.
Apply in person at the office of the clerk of Orphans'
court in any PA Commonwealth court house. (Call ahead to
you county court house to see if any special
requirements, that you may have to meet.) It varies from
county to county!
What you will need to bring with you to the court
house.
1. Driver's license with photo or ID photo.
2. Birth certificate.
3. Social Security card.
* If you are under the age of 18, your parent or
guardian will need there's too!
4. If you or your fiancé have been previously married or
widowed, you’ll need the divorce decree or death
certificate present with you for proof.
5. Bring at least $100.00 in cash or a money order with
you the day of. Some court houses may take a personal
check call ahead to find out.
There is a three day waiting period, before you can pick
up the marriage license not counting the day the
application is filed. (Apply for your marriage license
at least 1 month before your wedding date.)
The license is valid for 60 days (3 months) and can only
be used in the 67 counties of the commonwealth of
Pennsylvania.
Your marriage license may be used for your marriage
ceremony performed anywhere within the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania by an officiate, meeting the requirements
of Pennsylvania laws to perform such services. You do
not have to get married in the county where the license
was issued!
